Jun 3, 2013 11:45 AM in response to greysonrby greysonr,It turns out in my case that my mouse had gone bad, oddly, exactly when I upgraded to Mountain Lion—just funny coincidence.

Jun 3, 2013 1:27 PM in response to Tom_Vby Tom_V,So after trying everything, except smashing the mouse... I found an old mouse and swapped. It seems to work fine. I think the problem was the mouse.
And, by the way, the old mouse was labled "mouse", and the old replacement is labled "pro mouse"... the only difference is the Pro Mouse has black guts. And works.

Jul 11, 2013 11:22 AM in response to captfredby kreizboi,This helped me. I thought setting the Double-click to low was to slow down the double-click speed. thx

Jul 25, 2013 7:38 AM in response to TheSmokeMonsterby Sergio Tezza,NVRAM/PRAM in Mountain Lion DOESN'T hold mouse settings any longer...
And I have the same issue of single-clicks that THE SYSTEM thinks are double-clicks with any USB mouse I've tried.
It seems that it started after the last Combo Update or Security Update... I did them together...

Jul 26, 2013 7:01 AM in response to Sergio Tezzaby rjneeley,Same issue here as Sergio Tezza. Dialog boxes in applications will pop on screen and instantly pop off, files will save as if I've clicked "OK", a file will open with a single click rather than a double click. Just did the Security Update on Monday and all these issues started happening. Anyone else? Any fix???

Aug 2, 2013 7:49 AM in response to Sergio Tezzaby rjneeley,That doesn't help since I'm using a magic mouse, or mighty mouse or whatever it's called. I've tried all the settings in the mouse preference panel, I've tried reconnecting to the mouse. We have 2 computers here doing the same thing with the same mice -- one is only about 2 months old so I don't think it can be a worn out mouse. Any other ideas??? We are having SO many problems!!!

Aug 2, 2013 11:32 AM in response to rjneeleyby Sergio Tezza,If you use Magic Mouse, try this: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/33095/magicprefs
It speeds it up at least double and sets it a bit more reliably...

Jul 14, 2015 12:57 AM in response to captfredby kurbads,I am using OSX86 and Lion as it is the latest version I can run on my old Asus P5K3 Deluxe motherboard with Palit Gtx 460 video card. So the NVRAM reset is not my option.
I have a cheapest wireless mouse you can possibly imagine. It started to develop double click issues over time. I changed the battery with no improvement.
I carefully read trough this tread and tried Universal Access mouse option.
First I maxed it out to Fast and I could not even do a double click. Then I moved slider back to Normal and the problem seems to be gone.
I believe it has something to do with the click signal the mouse emits. It possibly is broadcasted too long and computer reads it twice.
Anyway, it is possible that the problem deteriorates or improves on its own.
In my case it has nothing to do with drivers. I regularly update my system HDD backup image and reverting does not solve the problem.
If you have a Bootcamp, try and repeat the problem under Windows to isolate the problem. Windows has double click speed setting too.

Apr 3, 2016 8:29 AM in response to Switchwaby bweissler,Encountered this today. Absolutely maddening! I have found that doing System Preferences >> Trackpad >> Point & Click, disable Force Click and haptic feedback seems to have solved the problem. Hope it solves yours too.

Jul 25, 2016 2:44 PM in response to Switchwaby JimOnLatona,My problem is with the track pad on a MacBook Air. Acts as if I double-clicked and seems to click randomly other times. Very frustrating.
I could certainly use a solution.

Aug 1, 2016 2:51 AM in response to Switchwaby jefffressco,Hey,
I think I just fixed the problem by going to: System Preferences>Accessibility>Mouse & Trackpad>
And unbox the "Spring-loading delay" option.
