iPod won't eject "other files in use"

I'm on a four month old HP Pavilion PC.  For the last month, iTunes won't allow me to eject my iPod: I get a message that "other files are in use."  On other threads I read that the conflicting issue may be Realplayer support files, and when I have shut down all Realplayer processes via the Task Manager, the iPod then does eject, but this seems to be an awfully cumbersome and time consuming way of going about things.  Does anyone have any permanent solutions to this? Should I just delete all Realplayer files and give up having that?  Which isn't a big deal, but it seems strange as I never had this issue before in all my previous computers or versions of iTunes.

All suggestions welcome!
