Let's see if we can isolate this issue further, I'd like you to try to restore your device with iTunes. If you are unable to do so, you may need to place the iPhone into recovery mode:
You may experience one of the issues listed below with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when you attempt to update or restore. If any of these occurs, you can place the device into recovery mode and attempt to restore the device again.
- Device continually restarts but never displays the Home screen.
- An update or restore did not complete and the device is no longer recognized in iTunes.
- Stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.
If you continue to have issues with iTunes recognizing your iPhone, see Step 5 "If the device is not recognized while in Recovery Mode" of this article:

Hi Matt M
Many thanks for your reply - I managed to to get my phone working again about 24 hours ago! I eventually got iTunes to recognise a phone was connected but it still failed to restore - after following the advice linked to the error message as a last resort I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled again and this seemed to do the trick. Fortunately I'd recently backup my contacts etc so not lost too much stuff!
Many thanks again for your response - much appreciated
