It can't possibly be a glitch with Apple, because Apple doesn't have a clue as to what your Facebook password is and would have no way of finding out even if they wanted to know what it was.

I just figured it out. I got my iPhone replaced today due to some glitch and when I tried restoring my new iPhone on my laptop, it asked for the passcode. At first I couldn't figure it out because I don't remember setting one in the first place. I just now retried it (after nearly 12 hours) and it was one of my old iPhone passwords (four-number passcode/ screen lock passcode). Finally, after hours of agony, I was able to restore my iPhone!

    I got the solution :

First use the iTune to login and authethicate your iphone again with your Apple ID and password.

Then plug in the Iphone and press the 'Restore backup' from i-tune.

This time you use Apple ID password and I got successful login and proceeded to restore.

    try and cheer!

That will work IF your Apple ID password was what you entered when originally prompted for a backup password. Go back and read the other messages. The password that worked was different for each user, but was always a password they knew.

If you encrypt an iPad backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync. Follow this way http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946 to know more about iOS backup

That will only work if the user chose to input the same password for both, separate functions.  It's worth a shot, of course, but not a guarantee at all.

The point of this, and all of the other SUCCESSFUL solutions in this thread is that it is a password that the user entered, and thus is a password know to the user. And, as iTunes does not know any of your passwords (not even your Apple ID password), iTunes could not have assigned a password arbitrarily. The user entered it, whatever it is.

Agreed, completely.  I was just trying to head off the inevitable "My Apple ID password didn't work and you said it would work!!!" posts.

In case you  forgot the password your punishment is  iTunes backup turning useless forever ?

Not being able to turn off encryption without a password is  a bug, not a feature. iPhones are for normal people and, as ANY other Apple system, there should be a way to ID yourself again and continue using the backup on iTunes.

I do not want to recover old backups, I just want to do new ones and now I'm looking for other backup tool since iTunes is useless. Android do behave better on this, sure.
