Aug 5, 2013 5:38 AM in response to vinay547by turingtest2,You can create an Apple account without a credit or debit card, but only if you jump through some hoops as you create the account. If you've already set up the Apple ID you wish to use then you will need to use a credit or debit card to complete the process of validating your residency in the country whose store you are trying to use, even if only for free content. Once that is done you can switch to using store credit if you prefer, or stick to free content.

Dec 29, 2013 3:28 PM in response to vinay547by mountaingoatgirl,I spoke with Apple Tech Support and they guided me through this. I was trying to get the App Store working on a new iPad mini using a new, but existing Apple ID. To get it to work, I had to go onto iTunes on my main computer (not on the iPad). I had been trying to use the Sign In button, and I was having the issue of being "forced" to enter a credit card, which I did not want to do. Here was the solution I was given, which worked for me.
- Log out of iTunes, if you are not already. (Or hit Cancel if you're on the Review Payment screen.)
- Instead of going into Sign In, go to Redeem under the Quick Links, on the right-hand side, down a bit.
- Go through the screens, accepting the EULA, etc. You will get to a Review Payment screen, similar to the one you saw before, but it will have a None button.
- You can enter an iTunes card here if you want, but I was able to leave that field blank and still successfully get the account set up, ready to use on the iPad.

Dec 29, 2013 3:51 PM in response to turingtest2by mountaingoatgirl,Agreed. The support person's first suggestion was to enter a credit card just to get the account verified, then remove it later. They promised that there would be no record of the credit card number after removing it, but I didn't really want to trust that they wouldn't keep a record of my number. This seems to be the only solution the support person could come up with, and it took them over half an hour to figure it out.
