Yes, the 800K drive means that another pre-1998 Macintosh computer would be needed as an intermediary for floppy transfers.
Is it an SE with an internal hard drive (there were versions with only floppy drives as well)? Which operating system?
A null-modem transfer between a more modern computer and an SE is per se possible, but it would require access to a suitable terminal emulation program with file transfer capabilities (communications program) on the SE's hard disk or on a floppy (800K).
