Q: macbook pro 2,2 will not let me put mountain lion on it - why not?

I have a MacBook Pro 2,2 with an intel Core 2 Duo (2.33GHz), 4GB RAM and large HDD capacity and yet I can not download Mountain Lion - It tells me straight away that my machine is not compatible.

Please Help!

My Macbook from Early 2009 with 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram has downloaded the same mountain lion and installed and works ( a little sluggish) so I can't understand why my other fails.

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

The Mac App Store is correct. The MacBookPro2,2 is incapable of running 10.8 but can run 10.7; if desired, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for it.

As indicated, that MacBook can only go to Lion 10.7. The limiting factor being the onboard intel graphics card in the MacBook.

    Upgrading to Lion

If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.

You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

         Lion System Requirements

           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,

               or Xeon processor

           2. 2GB of memory

           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)

           4. 7GB of available space

           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
