Intuit offers the correct version for Lion or Mountain Lion, it is at the location I posted.

That is correct; they currently offer 16.1.4 by download.  Please let us know which version arrives by DVD.  From an earlier post, you suggest you run 16.1.2.

Personally, I found many problems with 16.1.3 and reverted to 16.1.2 and continue to use 16.1.2 in lieu of 16.1.4.  I use it almost daily and have not run into any problems with my continuation of 16.1.2, but I have read some reports that suggests that 16.1.4 fixed the problems created by 16.1.3 -- I just am not ready to go through the trauma of my 16.1.3 experience again with 16.1.4!

It is an anomoly that MacUpdate is directly offering a download of 16.1.4 for no fee in lieu of just offering a link forwarding the reader to the Intuit website.

Huh? Q '07, the PPC one, ended at version 16.0.2. The version Intuit's offering at their site, 16.1.4, works with SL, Lion, and MtnLion. The one you have doesn't work w/Lion and Mtn Lion. Get it from Intuit's site.

He has 16.1.2 as noted in an earlier post:

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22670366#22670366

Intuit no longer offers version 16.1.2 by download; you get 16.1.4 by default.

With all due respect, you and I have discussed before, the situation of my (and many others) having problems with 16.1.3, and your lucky experience of having no problems with that version.  I recall that your position was that if 16.1.3 worked without problems for you on all three flavors of OS X that was the end of the discussion (for you, that is!).

He indicated he hasn't DL'd the Lion plus version, but was thinking of getting it from MacUpDate, leading me to conclude that 16.1.2 was a typo. There's no end of the discussion. All flavors of 16.1.x worked for me, leading me to conclude it should work for everyone, as does the currently installed 16.1.4 version. If it doesn't for you, then I conclude the problem's with your database and not the app.

Let me take one specific function of Quicken, say "split transactions."

Now for this hypothetical, let us assume that version 16.1.3 would crash anytime a user who has split his transactions attempts to use this version.

Another user comes along who has never split his transactions and has no problem with version 16.1.3.

While this latter user could say that:

All flavors of 16.1.x worked for me, leading me to conclude it should work for everyone, as does the currently installed 16.1.4 version. If it doesn't for you, then I conclude the problem's with your database and not the app.

    ...his conclusion would be WRONG!

But since it has given other users troubles, I choose to run an earlier version. I've used Quicken since '96 with virtually no trouble. I'd like to keep it that way, so after reading this entire thread, I'm sliding into this carefully.

I got to the MacUpdate page I posted by searching "Quicken for Mac 16.1.2", so I did not see which other versions they offer. For now I want to run just that version and not upgrade, so I was specific in my search.

The odd part was them listing a "shareware" price, but I couldn't find out how to pay it. I've ordered the DVD from Intuit and I'll let you know which version shows up.

I'm running OS 10.8.4 (on MBP 3 months old) and QI 16.1.2 does run on this configuration. I have ordered the DVD from Intuit just to be legal, but for now will keep running with this previous version.

    Wait, wait, wait!

I asked to download 10.1.2 from the MacUpdate site. I've just discovered that they gave me 10.1.4. I've not done much with it yet, but it does seem to be working. Moving forward with a little trepidation. I don't have time for any drama right now.

What's the difference. All 3 versions work for somebody, the point is there is a version that works. I don't understand why you need a optical disk version. I don't even have an optical disk player on this machine. Only the older machines even have a optical disk player. At any rate the original question in this part of this too long thread has been answered by quite a few users all with the same answer.

He is being heorically honest by purchasing software from Intuit that he obtained for no fee from a third party source,

That's "heroicly" -- I cannot seem to EDIT when logged in from my iPhone.

If 16.1.4 does not work out for you, let me know.

You can be a Hero for $14.99 these days? seems a little cheap.

Yeah: I got lazy on my iPhone and didn't check the spelling.
