Q: How do you connect a Ricoh Aficio MP C1500 printer to mac?

Hi, I am having problems connecting my iMac to a Ricoh Aficio MP C1500 printer, the printer is on the work network with Windows machines connecting okay, the printer is connected directly into the server, the mac can see it but it won't print, I can't seem to find any drivers that are compatible, getting bait frustrated.

Any ideas would be welcome.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Hi, unfortunately that did not work, could this be because this is an SP model not PS?

Likely not, you may have a need to use the Gutenberg drivers. Begin looking at

Ricoh Aficio MPC's are tough to connect.  The MP C1500 is not included in the standard Ricoh Printer Drivers for OS X download.  That's Richo's fault, not Apple's.

If you search the forums, you will find others who have blazed trails to get Aficio printers working with Macs.  Here are a couple of the key threads that helped me with my own office's networked MP C4000's:

After endlessly fooling around with the Apple Ricoh Printer Drivers for OS X, Print & Scan setup and Ricoh's own driver downloads, here's what I ended up doing, and it worked for us in our networked office:

    • Install macosx/pxlmono.  This includes Ghostscript, Foomatic RIP and pxlmono
    • Install Matt Broughton's Ricoh Printer Codes script  (assuming your office enforces user codes)
    • Set up your user codes in Matt's script.  It may take a few tries to make the codes stick.  A word of caution, if your server is setup for Ricoh user codes but you do not have them set on your Mac, your Mac will behave as if it's printing your documents but the printer will never print them.  Check with your IT people about your printer user codes.
    • I believe I set up the printers on my Macs as IP printers using LPD protocol (it's been awhile).  It took a few tries before the settings stuck.

Also, here is Richo's driver download page for the MP C1500:

I hope this is helpful!   Good luck.  We had a devil of a time initially getting them set up on our Macs, but ever since they have been working fine.  (Well, except for color images embedded in MS Word documents, but that's another unsolved chapter in the story...)

Thank you guys for your input, I've done a lot of Internet searching, downloaded lots of info etc etc etc, finally came to the conclusion that trying to get a MP C1500 SP connected successfully to our MACs is virtually impossible so will put it on eBay and buy a new printer.

There's a lot to be said for plug and play!!!!!!

Once again thanks for your input
