Q: How do I clean install Snow Leopard on a Mountain Lion system?

I have a boot disc for Snow Leopard but my system does not want to revert back to it when i try to click on the install Mac OS X on the boot disc. Any ideas how to do this?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Restart with the disk in the drive and the C key held down. You'll need to install Snow Leopard onto a blank drive or partition.

Can I not erase the hard drive entirely and use the boot disc? I'm getting rid of this computer and I don't want any info or any remnant of myself on this computer.

Yes. That's the correct procedure when parting with the computer. When you do so make sure to include the install disks.
