The latest iTunes may hide the sidebar (left side of window). To show the sidebar, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
When you connect the iPod, it should appear in the sidebar, under the heading DEVICES. It does not appear there?

Thanks for your reply, I just tried that, and no, it does not show up there. It loads to desktop, disk utiltiy, and says "do not disconnect" on the ipod screen. So everything seems normal, but itunes wont see it.

It sounds like the iPod is in Disk Mode, which is normally enabled using this procedure
To leave Disk Mode and put the iPod back into normal operation, you do a regular Reset, which is this procedure
A Reset just restarts the iPod. So you can try doing a Reset, if you have not already.

Those items didnt work right off the bat, I was ready to pitch the thing, but I restated my system and itunes found it!!! Thank you!!
