Who is your eMail provider, the part after the @ sign? Is it POP or IMAP?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.

The same thing just started happening to me today. Can't reply to anything, but I can read the emails. I can't create a new message, either. I click and nothing happens. This is a new issue I've never experienced before today.
