Delete the existing backups by going to iTunes preferences, Devices tab. If you have a Windows computer you may need to actually delete the backup files themselves. Delete everything in the Backup folder.

    • Windows XP:  \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    • Windows Vista and Windows 7 or 8:  \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press the Return key.

If the backup is corrupt it will help. If the problem is something different it won't help.

If you have a Windows desktop or tower computer and you plugged the phone into a front USB port or you plugged it into a USB hub that could also cause this error. In this case try a USB port on the back of the computer. If you have a laptop it shouldn't matter which port you use.

On your router if you don't know - you contact router manufacturer, you can find that and in most cases phone number on the bottom.

Airport base? -  that is for people that have Apple Airport routers.

Does the phone have to be off ? - No, not really but sometimes restart helps.

You contact Apple by the phone and they, depending on your location may/will assist different way. 1800 my apple is the phone number. Nobody knows if they will replace your phone until you talk to them. You do have to backup your phone, they will not do that.

    Instructions for backup here.

P.S.  Sometimes it helps to give details of your problem, it may very well be easy to fix, but without details - no help.

Just recently bought an iphone 4, i'm wanting to connect to wifi download games and really play with the phone. I"m having the same issue, i'v spent roughly 4 days tryign to find my WIFI password and i found it by Control Pannel-Wireless network setup wizard. So i got my WEP key, went to my Iphone 4 Settings- choose a network-pressed the arrow pointing right. Entered the 26 didget,WEP key. and pressed join. the little loading symbol just keeps turning and it's still ''locked''. no check mark showing it's connected. When i go back into the network , the only option is there is '' forget network''. When i go back out into the Settings it shows Wi-fi............angel > but it's not connected. What do i do?

Try rebooting your router by unplugging it for 15 seconds or so.

Ok, so I have been trying to get to the bottom of this myself. I have had the same intermittent fault of no wifi or 3g, constant resetting of my network settings or backing up and resetting the actual phone never sorted it. Sometimes I would get absolutely no access to my home network or any other networks for that matter. Also vary rarely able to get 3G access to the Internet. I was worried it was a hardware fault.

Today I contacted my SP using a live support chat thingy on my iPad, the guy I chatted to promptly sent an SMS to my phone, I followed some instructions within the SMS. Restarted my phone and hey presto! FAULT FIXED.

I will post again if it all goes wrong again.

My 4s also will not connect to my home wifi network. It does connect to every other one I am on however. It just randomnly stopped a couple months ago. I have looked up lots of forums and nothing seems to work. I have reset my network settings. I have reset my router. I have tried putting my password into the other options such as the WPA, WPA2 etc.. and I got nothing. I have put my phone in airplane mode turned it off than turned it back on. I don't have a IP Address at all when I look though and I don't know how to make it have one? I just keep getting "incorrect password for..." I know the password is correct. Help me please and in lamens terms.
