OK, so it's an original AppleTV 1.

Try holding menu and down arrow on the remote together for 6 secs to reboot to diagnostics mode.

You can restrat or run diagnostics from there (though I've rarely seen that help).

There's also an option to reinstall to shipping software - as a last resort I'd do this but be aware it will wipe all content from the AppleTV and require setting up from scratch - if the unit has a hardware issue this may not cure things either.

After the Apple logo does it stay there or does the screen go black?
