Q: Connecting new iPhone 5 to sound system.

I just got new iphone 5's.  i also have several "computer sound systems" throughout our home we connect our phones and iPads to.  The new 5's wont play when connected.  Is there an adapter now required for this?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

Not clear what you mean by "computer sound system."  What type of input do the systems use?

These are computer amplified speaker systems you would hook up to you desktop computer using a mini audio cable usually supplied with the system.  The mini cable ends plug into the old iPhone 4's and the iPads and allow the music to be heard like a good stereo system.  The cable fits into the new iPhone 5, but no sound is played.  Is this any clearer?

If the device connects via a 3.5mm jack in the headphone port on the device, simply plug it into the iPhone 5.

If the stereo system connects through the dock connector on the bottom of the device, you will need a lightening to 30 pin adaptor.

The iPhone 5 has the same audio output and jack as all other iPhones.  If yours doesn't work, there is a problem with your phone.

"Computer amplified": No such thing - computers don't "amplify" anything and the signal connection you describe is stricly analogue,

Then believe it or not there may be an issue with the iPhone

Try a reset and then a restore if it still doesn't work it is likely  a hardware issue  .take it to an Apple Store genius bar .It is under warranty

Is the cable fully plugged into the device?

Do headphones work with the iPhone?

Shame on me!  I took my wife's word that the phone wouldn't work.  I went and checked and the problem was the cable end connector was too fat to go into the phone case far enough.  I got a different cable and now it works.  I should have known better.  Thanks to all.
