after exchanging my graphics card (from a GT8800 to the Sapphire 7950) on a MacPro (2009) I have no built-in audio anymore AT ALL. In the device list there IS an "Intel High Definition Audio" but no subdevices listed. When changing via bootcamp to a Windows7 partition everything works fine (That is, sound works fine - anything there!). I think It very likely has nothing to do with the widely discussed "headphones/toslink" problem - simply because the mac pro has built-in dedicated toslink connectors.

Also resetting the PRAM did not (yet) help.

I definitely get the start chime. But then...

I even changed back to the GT8800.

What happens? Surprise: I get the listing of output/input devices back under "Intel High Definition Audio" - but still NO devices to choose in system control panel. And so - no sound. Changing back again to the other graphics card STILL lists the hardware devices but - sure - I still cannot choose them.

Even MORE strange - even a COMPLETE reinstall of the OS did not really change the situation!

I mean - NOT just over-install - installing on a plain disk!

Just a guess:

Might that have something to do with the built-in HDMI-output on the new grahics card?

Maybe the computer - or the graphics card driver - is "confused" and tries to redirect the sound to the HDMI output??

There is no way for me to define/set/switch a possible audio to that HDMI output (but anyway it´s not intended too).

I found NO hints yet for my particular situation - thats why I´m trying to ask the community (first time to be honest).

Does anyone have an idea?
