Q: Fans are acting up, is this a sign that tells cp to shut down until it gets fixes?

Could my fans start acting up on purpose, to tell me that, other than the cooling system or the amount of thermal paste is on the processors (DUAL), G5 is dried out. Can it be telling you that there is something else that is not fan related, that needs to be looked at? I have a G5 Dual 1.8 (4 sticks) of DDR-400mhz pc 3200 pci-x 160GB HD running with 10.2.7 OS X, (November 2003) Apple Model# A1047 all this going on then power supply does'nt work so I replaced it with the exact same power supply and still here the fans sounding like a Jet liner landing, The 3 LED start up power light blinks 3 times  pauses repeat 3 times pauses like to say the memory is not compatible, yet the memory is fine it is the same memory I had in it before ,never taken out of its banks, the Cmos battery was dead, Changed that, put another battery in and same thing happens as did before no signs of life. Just a black screen. So is there anyone out there that can help me with the process of elimination and tell me how can I apply cpr and save its life, from patiently waiting James,

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.2.x)

The OEM thermal compound on any 10 year old computer needs to be replaced.  It doesn't last forever and the older stuff was only good for three to four years anyway.  You've had yours in storage for six years, so that bodes well.  It's not just the quality of the compound, but the quality of the workmanship really leaves something to be desired.  This isn't just a criticism of Apple, but of every major computer manufacturer.  Those kids in the child labor camps, making 99 cents and hour, often seem to think that more is better.

Three blinks normally means either bad memory or memory that needs to be reseated.

If you're feeling lucky, try this (scroll down to BDAqua's advice):

I should mention that it's possible that this isn't what is causing your fan problem, but it definately falls into the category of something that needs to be done anyway.

Japamac wrote a good tutorial on the subject:

I use the MX-3, as well.  It applies easily and it doesn't conduct electricity, so it would be really hard to screw things up.  I'd read Japamac's tutorial and then maybe look for some Youtube videos of G5 teardowns.  You can find the compound on Amazon.
