May 5, 2013 11:13 PM in response to joanatteby SolverWiz,Look at vintapps in the Apple app store. It has information on tons of apps available for the earlier ios devices. It can also download them from the app store.

May 7, 2013 10:24 AM in response to Julius Chengby Bambanoo,Also, how hard would it be for apple to create a section in the ap store which is iOS specific? My big problem is not being able to use the apple "remote" app after having to restore two ipod touches that i use to control my whole house.
Its a bit insulting to be left back like that when my devices work perfectly fine for what i need them to do. Imagine if microsoft stopped supporting XP users...
Anyone know where i can get a 4.2.1 version of "remote"?

Jun 11, 2013 9:54 AM in response to Bambanooby max69power,It is called planned obsolesce. They do it so you need to buy new hardware. That is where apple makes their money. Google makes money on advertising and a little off the app store. They make no money on the hardware. so the more devices they support the better it is also an open vs closed OS. Apple dose make some very good hardware though. it have a very low failure rate.

Jun 20, 2013 6:52 AM in response to houdgardby grendelmon,Houdgard, no. Your screenshot is from a current version of the App Store, probably iOS 5 or iOS 6. The App Store in iOS 4.2.1 does *not* show the requirements for the apps.
That is why it is so difficult for 4.2.1 users to identify what is compatible with their older devices (e.g. 2nd generation iPod Touch).

Jul 9, 2013 3:51 PM in response to Elil613by Elil613,To find all compatible apps - search in google:
- Replace the word "<Keywords>" with what you want to search for. ex. games, bowling, etc...
- If you are not looking for free apps remove the word "free" from the search.
You can also search on www.appleappstore.webs.com for:
"requires ios (3.0|3.1|3.2|4|4.1|4.2)" "free" <Keywords>
- Also replace the word "<Keywords>" with what you want to search for.
If you are not looking for free apps remove the word "free" from the search.

Jul 23, 2013 7:22 AM in response to carolplus6by XMegan13X,I too have an Ipod touch 2G that cannot update past 4.2.1 and I have a little brother that I download games for. This thread was really helpful and so I decided to post some more games that this thread did not have (and in I'm going to repeat some just to make it easier on me).
Games:
Zenonia (very fun, I have it on my own Ipod touch 4G Now my favorite game on iPod Touch.)
Hybrid (very fun also)Break Block! (like brickbreaker)
Doodle Bowl
Super Save (a soccer game)
8Bitninja (a falldown game)
Retro Pinball
iPro airhockey lite
Infinity Lite
Mrs. Pac-Man
BREAKOUT
Ninjago: RotS
Turbo Granny
Happy Feet TwoWacky Pigs
Bubble Burst
Smart Bowling
Mal Function
Jump or Die (don't be threatened by the name, great for kids)
Summon War
Fantasy Defense
Mega Monkey Jump
Bob Burnquist's Dreamland
WolfBoy Lite
Rollercoaster Extreme
And that's just the start. In another post on another blog about iOS games for 4.2.1 the link led you to a google search with this in the bar 'site:itunes.apple.com/us/ "requires iOS 4.2 or later"'.
Just put this:
site:itunes.apple.com/us/ "requires iOS 4.2 or later"
in your google search bar and you'll find pages of apps that can work. Not all of them do (as I tried) so some have been updated, but there are a lot there that do work. These apps (in the list above) are ones I found that do, just to save you guys some time. I hope this helped!(And PS: Angry Birds does not work for iPod Touch 2G anymore, and neither does normal Pac-Man, Gravity Guy, or Paper Toss)
