I restored it as new after reseting my iPhone and never received the message stating that it was unlocked.

And after trying all of Apples steps for unlocking your iPhone I'm still receiving a message stating my SIM from Telstra is not valid.

Then I would check with Telstra and maybe try a different SIM.

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. This helps a lot. Have couple of questions

    1) Many users say that Verizon iPhone 4S still first picks CDMA network and does not work on GSM in india. That will incur you roaming charges and you can not connect to vodafone and as its CDMA it works with either Reliance or tata. Is that true?

    2) Did you buy prepaid card in india?

It's true, unless you turn that feature off.

    Settings>General>Cellular>Roaming>International CDMA>Off

    Hi,

I need some help. I recently bought an iphone4 whilst on holiday in New York. The shop I bought it from stated that this particular phone does not take a sim card and there is no sim tray on the phone. I thought that it was a bit strange but the man in the shop was adamant that this was the case. I have now returned back from New York to the UK. My phone will work when i am on wifi however there is still no way i can get my sim in the phone?!! Also i have been to a O2 shop in the uk who state that the phone is a fake? Im really confused as when i plug my phone into my pc it recognises it as an iphone and it has also put all my contacts on it?

    Please help?!!!!

It is not a fake, it is a CDMA phone tied to either Verizon or Sprint. You can move to the US and use it on either of those networks. You can return it where you bought it and get your money back. Or you can call sell it.

An iPhone 4S DOES have a SIM tray and has all the radios to operate on GSM networks in the UK, but if it is tied to Verizon, they need to unlock it so that a UK SIM will function. I know because I have a Verizon iPhone 4S in my hand - bought in the U.S., where I live, two years ago - that currently has a U.K. T-Mobile SIM in it. I am sitting in St.Agnes, Cornwall, England, while on holiday as I write this and have been making calls and checking email and surfing the web with it for two weeks so far.

Yes. The 4s does. But the 4 does not.

    100% correct. 4 = NO, 4S = YES. Sorry that I wasn't clear in my previous post.

Hey! I've found your comments really helpful so far (I'm attempting to use a foreign SIM in my old iPhone 4S) but just came across the term "unbricking" in this post (I had been reading the more recent ones...)

What is unbricking, how do I do it, etc? All that I was told was that once Verizon unlocked my phone, I would be able to plug the new SIM card in and "VIOLA!" it would work. However, after reading this first post of yours, I think I may be missing the crucial step of unbricking the phone...

Any tips or advice would be much appreciated!

It sounds as if you're missing the step of restoring your phone using iTunes. You'll need to do tha after the device is unlocked.

    Best of luck.

Hmm. How can I restore it? I mean, I've restored phones before, but the problem is that iTunes is coming up with this message each time I plug my phone in:

The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.

The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information.

... Except that shouldn't be an issue, because the phone should be unlocked... So basically it's unlocked, unactivated and unresponsive. Haha - thanks for the tip about restoring! I just hope I can actually do it..

After Verizon unlocks it, then you leave the country, insert your new SIM, and finally sync your iPhone with iTunes. If you have don't all of these steps it should be working. If it's not working it sound like your phone was not unlocked properly. I would contact Verizon again. If you are still in the US the new SIM will not work. You must be out if the country for it to work.

I had Verizon before moving abroad and the above steps is all I had to do.
