Q: Why aren't NIK Plug Ins working (the are listed in grey letters in Edit In pulldown menu)
I successfully installed Aperture last night. I then updated to the latest version. Then I inserted the NIK Collection (google) into this folder: Library>Application Support>Aperture>Plug Ins>Edit.
Sure enough, when I start up Aperture, click on a RAW image and then go to the Photo Pull-down menu and navigate to Edit With Plug in, the complete NIK package is there, but the letters are grey and the various effects won't activate.
I tried this with a RAW image and a Jpeg. Computer is an iMac with 6Gb of RAM. OS Mountain Lion.
(this is my first post, but I'm sure I'll be back.

I'll just use the small booklet that came with the program. And practice on the sample files included on the program disk.
That should do it. The booklet covers all the bases anyway and Apple programs are designed to use and learn anyway!
Have fun.
