HI,

I have a netgear wireless modem router in my office, from that i have 2 computers wired from that piece of kit, with ethernet cables. One is an Apple Mac and the other one is a windows P.C.

I am going to buy an apple airport extreme to get a better wi fi signal through my house. Will I have to connect the airport beside the wireless router I have, and have the two working in tandem ?

Thanks

The AirPort Extreme is not a modem, so you have to connect it with an Ethernet cable to your modem, so it can get Internet. Note that it must be connected to the WAN port of the AirPort Extreme.

Then, on your Mac, open AirPort Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps to set up your AirPort Extreme

You also do have the option to extend the WiFi using the base station in the airport utility, meaning you can have it plugged in somewhere else as a wifi extender.

However mendi1's solution is the recommended setup and may give you better network performance than your piece of kit you have

It's also a good decision. For the OP, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4145

I now have the Airport Extreme, apparently I have to turn off the wi fi on my netgear router, I was wondering how you do that,

I have logged in to my netgear smart wizard, I have chosen wireless settings, and in there i have a heading

    Wireless Access Point

Under that heading I have 2 box's checked, The first box checked is   Enable Wireless Access Point.

The other box checked is Allow Broadcast of Name ( SSID )  And the third box which is unchecked is Wireless Isolation

Is it just a case of unchecking the box Enable Wireless Access Point,  or is the off switch somewhere else.

    Thanks

Yes unchecking that box should be fine. You should get a clear indication that it is off by checking the WiFi/Wireless LED on the modem.. if it is off, then you would of sucessfully disabled it.
