Occassional comments come up about auto-typing, but often a reboot solves the problem...hold both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and the iPad restarts...ignore the red slider if that appears.
If that does not help, best bet is a trip to an Apple store genius bar to have it checked by the techs.

Thanks I will try that. I do not live in the USA and the local Apple vendor said "there is nothing wrong" despite the fact it types on its own and launches apps.

If you need further help directly from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 to get the Apple support phone number for your country location. If the iPad continues to auto-type after a reboot, then there could be a problem with the screen/digitizer which the user cannot fix.
