This forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office or your question in any way. I suggest you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

Thanks for the advice.
I tried searching everywhere for a solution to my problem, which was not a problem until recently.
Everywhere I try, the reply just does not fix my problem.
All I'm looking for is info on why my Mac was opening these older word and excel documents before, but now doesn't want to?

Hi there, I'm having problems opening some microsoft office documents?
I think all was fine until recently, however, now some won't open...giving the message "cannot open this workbook" "The filename or path contains invalid characters(for example, /)."...
If you open the folder in which the problematic file is located, the path to that folder is shown at the top of the folder's window. Is there one of Windows' forbidden (i.e., "invalid" which includes quite a few beyond "/") characters anywhere in that path? The problem may have developed recently if the path to the file changed and an invalid character was included.
