Q: How to turn OFF Organize by Conversation in all mailboxes at once and set it as default?

The Apple Mail Organize by Conversation is not working properly on Mail 6.5 on Mac with OS X 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion).

How to turn off such Organize by Conversation in all mailboxes of at once and leave it off as default for past and new messages?

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), Booting from internal Fusion Drive

Mail/Preferences/Viewing. Uncheck include related messages. I don't know if this will work for past messages.

Thanks, yet unfortunately it does not included thousands of past (imported) messages. Even after quitting and opening Mail again. Is there a way for that? Thanks.

On the view menu in Mail, deselect 'Organize by Conversation'

Thanks, but that has to be done on a one-by-one basis for each of the hundreds of mailboxes. Is there a way to turn it off/on for all mailboxes at once and leave it off by default? Thanks.

This worked when I tried it. Select multiple conversations at once by holding down the shift key, then use Csound1's menu item to uncheck Organize by Conversation.

Thanks, but I have thousands of conversations. Is it possible to select all mailboxes and turn off the Organize Conversations at once for all, including all past and future mailboxes and messages?

I am able to do one mailbox at a time and it turned off Organize by Conversation in all messages in the mailbox.

It works doing it with one mailbox at a time, selecting it and then deselecting "View - Organize by Conversation". A real pain and clealry impractical when you have thousands of mailboxes...

It does not work at all deselecting even all items in "Mail - Preferences - Viewing - View Conversations". After that, all the imported mailboxes have the Organize Conversation active.

Anyone knows how to overcome this? Thanks.

    1. Collapse your folder hierarchy by clicking the arrow next to the top folder, such that you only have one "root" folder showing (and closed)

    2. Alt-click on the arrow to expand ALL your folders under this root folder

    3. Select (highlight) the first folder by clicking on it

    4. Scroll down to the bottom of your folder list and SHIFT-click on the last one -- this will select (highlight) ALL your folders

    5. In the menu bar, select View > Organize by conversations -- this will set conversation view to ON for all folders

    6. Repeat step 5 a 2nd time, and this will REMOVE conversation view from all folders

This works, and it just takes a minute, no matter how many folders you have.

THANK YOU FOR THIS!!  I'm just moving from years of using Windows and am tearing my hair out with some of the bizarre Mac behaviors. Really appreciate this tip...was having no luck until I found your answer.

    Best wishes....
