I have an early 08 8-core 3.0ghz with 32gb memory, a 250gb ssd for startup, (3) 4tb 7200 disks OS X 10.8.4 and a quadro fx 5600 gpu. Im using it for FCP X but it has an unbareable lag and has to think for a couple seconds after ever button I push. it has no problems with motion 4 or 5 or FCP 6. We bought it used and our IT built it with the thinking that FCPX uses grand central and can utilize all of the cores and memory (the gpu was already installed when we bought it from a movie animation company). FCP X forum suggested I talk to you guys about changing out the graphics card to something newer. Im looking at the 5870 (Mac rumors says it works in 2008s) but I just want some advice on weather or not the gpu is the problem and if so will the 5870 make me happy?

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)
