Ok i finally got mine back on its quite unconventional how i did it but it but at least it doesn't involve being bored while doing it i restored it then once it has come back on with the updating time and date page i jst streamed a movie through it using stream to me by the time the movie had finished it had started working again home sharing and everything i realise everyone doesnt have streamtome but it seems as soon as you get it to stream something it kicks back into life so please try and see if this helps good luck

Mine is finallay working again.  I went through everything Apple asked me to, including resetting my router and changing the security and it still didn't work. Luckily I still had one month of warranty so they had me send it back for "repair".  It is finally back home again.  Plugged it in and it worked perfectly right out of the box.

Wish I could help you all more, but that is all I got!

    Good luck

I did see that you've sorted yours via apple earlier in the thread but thought the info would help anyone else who may not be as lucky to be in warranty or could not be bothered with the hassle of sending back to apple upon further investigation it seems that the device cannot get the time and date for some unknown reason but when you stream something through it helps it find its required info. You are still able to stream through it even when it carnt find date and time you just carnt access all its features apps, home sharing etc but it still shows up on your devices iphone ipad etc so you just stream youtube or in my case streamtome and as its streaming it kicks into life obviously a glitch with firmware

I had that problem for a month or so and It happened right after the new software update, I contact apple via email but didn't had much help.   I finaly had the time to sit and figured what was really going on. and find out that my router was blocking my apple tv.   it may be something not very easy to for everybody, but just go into your router page and diseable the firewall or put it in the lowest protection.  apply and restart your apple tv. it should work.  for a list of ports used by apple tv  here's the link where you can find them.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2463?viewlocale=en_US

Thanks, this worked for me, ATV3 does ask me sometimes to update, which i refuse as it finally works after trying everything.

I shut off the firewall on my xfinity router and everything updated fine. Now to try with Vudu on Roku.

Tried this and got all the way to the part where I shift+click, then it told me my device (AT2) is not eligible for the installation. Help?

I searched for days until I finally saw an answer. Turned out to be very simple fix. I just overlooked the obvious. It was an issue of the Apple TV needing to be powered off and wifi reset before powered back on. Trick is the wifi needs to be reset and green before Apple TV is turned back on. Worked like a charm.
