If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

Thanks. I did try that, but I kept getting asked for my username (you'd think the name I use to sign on to the computer), and the network ID, which I was sure of. Denied. So I followed another suggestion, going to keychain from apps/utilities, and finally dug around until I found the network name in keychain--it wasn't right there--and deleted it, highlighting and using the delete key (I use Windows, too, and was expecting delete by pressing right button on mouse). So the network no longer asks for username! Bingo!
