MS Word for Mac has never actually supported RTL scripts like Hebrew/Arabic. I would recommend you use another app. Mellel is best, but TextEdit, Nisus Writer, OpenOffice should also work OK.

Thanks. Yes, the Hebrew script does show up in TextEdit but, more importantly, it also shows up in Apple's Pages app. That's what we'll use.

Unfortunately Pages (along with other iWork apps and iBooks Author) has various bugs with RTL scripts, and most people find them unsuitable for Arabic/Hebrew. Cursor behavior is the most obvious, along with the lack of any option for choosing writing direction as found in other apps. Sometimes copy/paste from TextEdit can help. But normally Apple users turn to Mellel or one of the other apps mentioned earlier.
