Is It normal that my premium category 15" retina MBPs screen has ghosting issues, and I get declined from screen replacement?

I have purchased this hardware in Budapest for approximately 3000 usd. I was a bit shocked to see screen ghosting after a few days of use. The problem was getting worse but because I am a design consultant working mainly on my Mac I couldnt take a week off to leave It at an Apple service station.

Last week I was surprised to receive the information from the local Apple repair shop in Germany that my retina MBP that I bought 13 months ago was declined from screen replacement by Apple.

Considering the price of the product I find It unacceptable that I need to work on a defective product and see shadows every time I leave an Illustrator or InDesign window open for a short period of time.

Is there any way to resolve this issue? I wouldnt like to pay another 800 dollars just to replace a component on my defective Apple product.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), ghosting

Contact Apple Support directly.  In Germany the Expresslane or this number

0800 6645 451 will allow you to speak directly to someone from Apple.    Explain your situation.   Mind you, AppleCare and issues with Apple products like this have to occur without any user accidents or user installed parts to ensure that Apple will cover you.  If there was a user accident or installed part, you may be turned down.  If you have the original Apple parts, and did the installation yourself, replace it with the original parts very carefully following the directions on http://www.ifixit.com/ unless you can afford an authorized service provider to do it for you.  Since we don't speak for Apple here, being end users like yourself, that's why I say "may", as I've seen Apple handle these things on a case by case basis.  So hopefully you don't have any obvious damage that looks like it is user caused.   Good luck!

    Many thanks for your help!

Finally Apple refused to reconsider my case. It is a bit frustrating... next time will choose Lenovo:)

    Cheers!

Did you ask to have your case looked at by Customer Relations?  Sometimes that helps too.  If they still can't help, realize, had you bought AppleCare before it was a year old, they might cover it.   Even Lenovo has its own warranty exclusions.   And furthermore, you won't get the virus protection you get on a Mac.

According to the phone call with Apple apparently there is no possibility for further reconsideration of any kind:(

Yeah I am sure Lenovo has flaws as well but they give 3 years of warranty on their ThinkPad products with no extra charge... which is pretty great. Just thought If you payed twice the money for an Apple product you get twice the quality. Sadly not.

Many thanks for the help again!

You ever wonder why they offer a free warranty that is longer, and are cheaper?  Because cheaper quality means the company is willing to admit more likely chance of failure that needs to be covered.  Look who has made out in the stock market.  Apple.

You don't make out in the stock market selling a higher priced item up front without selling a superior product.

And I would seriously consider you can buy AppleCare to extend your warranty to three years for many other things.  If you didn't have AppleCare on this notebook that may be why they refused.   Most Macs do not have warranty issues.

You just happened to have one of the unlucky ones.

I believe Apple usually makes good products even me I was surprised that mine shipped being defective.

The problem lies rather in the customer service after my purchase. I would have felt justified the replacement of a poorly manufactured component. Which seems especially frusitrating considering the fact that the company has massive cash reserves. That I believe they partly should spend on keeping their customers satisfied rather than for rainy days or something.

Hope they will do charity by the way... With a 100 billion dollars they could totally solve clean water issues in the third world or something:) That would be awesome. Definitely a cooler move than dividends.

There are within their right not to freely repair anything outside the 12 month window, if you didn't buy AppleCare.    It says so in the terms of AppleCare.     Now if you bought the machine with a credit card, the credit card may extend the warranty.     Also if an accident happened, your homeowner/rental insurance may cover damages depending on where it happened.  But check first with those vendors before making a claim how it might affect your coverage.
