Q: application to iBooks problem: iTunes account already used for apps

Hi,

I work at a publishing company, where we have an iTunes Connect account we use to sell apps to the appstore. I'm trying to use this same account to distribute iBooks as well. So I go to the application portal at https://itunesconnect.apple.com/WebObjects/iTunesConnect.woa/wo/7.0.0.9.7.3.1

where it says you can submit multiple different media type using the same accoutn as long as you apply seperately for each. I choose Books from the dropdown, then fill in my First/Last name, AppleID, and password, check the box to agree, and then I get the following error:

"The iTunes Store account entered has already applied to distribute Apps on the iTunes Store. To continue with this application, you must enter a different iTunes account."

I don't understand this as it seems to contradict the other information about being able to sell multiple media types with one account. Am I supposed to make a new AppleID? A new iTunes account? What do I need to do to sell iBooks?

please help!
many thanks

I'm in the same boat.  Simply can't believe Apple doesn't want to fix this so more people can use ibook.  It's madness if you ask me.  Hope someday there is a solution.

Wow crazy still no solution to this or a reply from Apple to anyone a year later.  I too thankfully have not formated my book and spent the crazy hours.  I'll check back in a few months in hopes Apple has worked out a one account solution!

I had this issue as well. Signed up as an App developer but when I wanted to Connect for making books... frustration. But I did work through it today by creating a new Apple ID using one of my other email addresses. All information was the same. ID application went through. Then I applied for the iBooks Connect account using new ID. It went through. Now I am waiting for approval. Fingers crossed. Hope this helps.

    This problem is still occuring

I have contacted support and twice been put through to 2 REPS who say they will handle it but still nothing is getting done

I have informed them about this thread and told them that someone needs to take ownership of this and create accounts on there end and not make us wait around. As we won't wait around

If I don't hear back I am going to escalate this even higher and send a letter into apple

If that doesn't get anywhere I will send out a press release

At some point someone is going to take action

There is no charge for accounts to publish at the iBookstore.

    The following error(s) occurred:

    • The iTunes Store account entered is already being used for an iTunes Connect account that distributes Apps. To continue with this application, you must enter a different iTunes account.

    ---

    > I really don't understand why this should be a problem or is labeled as an "error". Why should I create a new account and what could be the reason for this...??

Nobody here can tell you why Apple has the requirements it has.  If it's not possible for you to meet them, you can just use one of the other bookstores.

You can use the feedback channels to tell Apple about changes you would like to see

Since Apple offers no real support for this, best to just move on. They want you to publish through a third party, and not directly, which is why they've made this so hard to do.

They don't even answer here, even though the forums are monitored.

Wow! I just fell into the same trap. It never would occured to me that I couldn't use the same account for both iBooks and iOS apps. I set up a multimedia LLC for the purpose of distributing both under the same company - it seemed a logical thing to do. And now I find I have to go through this monkey motion

And as previously noted - Apple apparently is ignoring this issue... perhaps to send a message. If this is true then I'm really dissapointed as this is the kind of tactic that the evil empire (MS) would have employed in thier hayday. I hope this isn't a indication of the general mindset at Apple these days..... I guess we can only wait for the return of Steve Jobs..... until then anybody seen any wise men?

Most people I know have simply avoided the iBooks program because of this.

Apple made this process difficult for a reason - to get smaller publishers to use their third party affiliates to facilitate the program for them.

On the other hand,  Apple certainly strongly encourages the multitouch .ibooks format, giving away the iBooks Author software to make it, and I think this can only be done by individual direct upload, as 3rd party aggregators don't accept it.

3 years later, and we still have to create another ID in order to publish our books. Outrageous.
