My MacBook half-froze - I could move the cursor but couldn't click on anything, none of the keys would work either - so I shut it down by holding down the power button.

When I turned it back on, there was a grey screen with 4 options: restore using Time Machine, reinstall Lion, get help on safari, or repair using disk utility. I tried repairing, but it said nothing was wrong. I tried reinstalling Lion, and after waiting an hour and a half for it to install and reboot, the same grey screen with the same 4 options appeared.

Does anyone have any idea what this is and how I can fix it? I can't restore because I don't have time machine.

MacBook (13-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.5)
