Q: Desktop Wallpaper keeps going back to the standard wallpaper after reboot

I updated to 10.8 and for some reason my desktop wallpaper will default to the Galaxy wallpaper whenever I restart or shutdown. I will change the wallpaper to something else, restart or shutdown and the Galaxy wallpaper will be back. I re-installed mountain lion and it has not resolved the issue. Anybosy experiencing the same issues?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion

    Hi,

I posted a similar thread since I'm having the same proble.

I tried what you suggested and it seems to solve the problem ONLY when I log-out then log-in again WITHOUT rebooting. If I change the wallpaper after entering the terminal command you mentioned and reboot straight away (without loging-out first), the wallpaper reverts to the previuous one.

It seems like the log-in window has something to do with retaining the last wallpaper I choose (not sure how).

    Thanks anyways!

I had to restart twice for it to start working, but it did fix this issue.

MBPR came with ML installed and I had this same issue of my wallpaper cycling through the default desktop backgrounds, a differnt default backgorund would greet me everytime I booted up.

    Thanks Softwater! Big help!

i tried this and it resulted in my mac not booting up. It gets stuck at the logo n spinning progress bar. None of the safe mode methods are working either. Im in a fix. Cant believe something can go so wrong just trying to set a **** wallpaper!

ok anyone who had the same problem as GuilleMostaza and I (ie their mac refused to boot after making changes suggested by Ahmed21788) can try this

boot your Mac into Single User Mode by holding "command-S" on startup and wait for the prompt. enter

    /sbin/mount -uw /

    then

    cd Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration; ls

then when you are in the directory where the autodiskmount.plist is you can remove it by entering

    sudo rm autodiskmount.plist

    and type in your password.

then type "reboot" and hopefully your Mac will boot!

Like others, I'd had this difficulty & found the thread useful.

That said, I preferred to find the plist file manually, so I knew where I was deleting it from, rather than just typing something in. (Also would make sure I'd not do any typos!)

For those wondering, it was in the user's library folder, rather than the general library folder. There was also a 'lockfile' - which I assume was because it was running -  I didn't bother to delete that & it worked fine.

Looking at earlier posts referring to which HD Mountain Lion and the image are both on, I'm guessing mine got confused as Mountain Lion is on the New computer & I used migration assistant to move all the files & software & settings etc. from an older machine (running Lion).

(My biggest problem was remembering which image folder my image was in!)
