Q: Does iTunes Match allow you to watch tv shows or movies from your library on Apple TV?

Can you watch tv shows and movies from your iTunes library on your Apple TV using an iTunes Match subscription? Or is that strictly used for your music library?

    Hello Kadeberry,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

iTunes match is intended for your Music library.

    iTunes Match

With iTunes Match, all your music — even songs you’ve imported from CDs — can be stored in iCloud. So you can access your music from all your devices and listen to your entire library, wherever you are.

    Take care,

    Sterling

sterling is technically correct, but lacks information.

You don't need to pay for the music iMatch subscription (though I recommend it anyway if you have lots of music) to watch movies and tv shows on Apple TV. You don't even need iTunes if they are Apple purchased. Apple TV will stream all your iTunes purchases when linked to your Apple ID.

You can play non-iTunes purchased home movies as well, as long as they are in iTunes (MP4 format). This option you use Air Play from iTunes on your computer to the Apple TV.
