Aug 31, 2013 4:29 PM in response to maximusgabbeby MrHoffman,Prompting for a password is normal, so it's not clear what's changed here. If this is a new system, wipe the disk, and reinstall. Alternatively, here are the Apple descriptions of how to reset a lost Open Directory administrator password, and a lost login (local) password, but it's probably easier to start from a blank disk than from one you're not famiiar with; if you have no login information, you'll need to reset both the local login and possibly also the Open Directory login. Sep 2, 2013 1:13 PM in response to maximusgabbeby cpragman,This mac came from somewhere, right? Who gave it to you? You can ask them. New Macs don't offer a User/Password login window, until someone has booted it at least once and configured the first account. Do you know who that is?
If you don't know/trust the previous owner, then the first step is to wipe it, and re-install from scratch. You'll have to pay the $19 for server software again (purchase from app store).
