As the phone is still in warranty, why don't you just take it to an Apple store and get it replaced?
By "shut it down" do you mean to turn it off completely, or just put it to sleep (turn the screen off)? If it is just sleep you want set a short idle time in Settings.

Sorry, no. Your phone is still under warranty, make an appointment at any Apple store or call AppleCare.
