    Hello BrendaBettySue,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like you are trying to enable Home Sharing on your computer but it will not turn on.

I think it would be a good idea to run through the troubleshooting outlined in this article named Troubleshooting Home Sharing found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972.

Here is a general overview of the troubleshooting to be done:

    1. Set up Home Sharing on all devices

    2. Verify system requirements

    3. Check your Apple ID

    4. Check your network connection

    5. Check Firewall Settings

    6. Quit and reopen apps and iTunes

    7. Restart your network router

    8. Cannot access my library when my computer is asleep

    Cheers,

    Sterling

I had the same problem with an alternate  ID that I use. I work at an apple store, so, considering the large number of setups and  IDs I help create, I had a hunch, and it was right.

In my case, the  ID was not FULLY setup. By that I mean the  ID has to be vetted through proper address labeling and having 3 security questions in place.

The simplest way to get it working in my case was this...

I used my ipad (but iTunes on your computer will work too).  I opened the App Store, scrolled to the very bottom of the FEATURED page, tapped on my logged in ID and signed it out. Then I tapped SIGN IN and used the  ID in question. After signing in, I attempted to download a free app (anything free, doesn't matter what. I use free because I will not be putting a credit card on to this account ever. This works with ANY iTunes content: Songs, Movies, IBooks, Ios apps, Mac apps etc use the correct kind of content based on the store you are in, I chose a free App because I'm in the App Store doing this...). Itunes will make you verify your billing info, I chose NONE for card type, ALL REQUIRED FIELDS MUST BE COMPLETED including your title of Mr. Ms., Mrs., etc). Fill it all out and save. Next iTunes will tell you that security must be enhanced and it will make you choose 3 security questions. Complete those and save. Essentially, once the free content ACTUALLY starts downloading, you're over the hump. NOW go and try to do home sharing again with this same  ID.  In my case, worked like a charm, instantly.

    Good luck.
