Q: Epson Printer Filter Failure with rastertoescpII

I recently updated my Epson drivers via Software Update. Now when I try to print, I get an error message of a "filter failure" and that "rastertoescpII quit unexpectedly".

In the log file it says:

(/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpII) crashed on signal 11

I have tried resetting the printing system via the Print & Scan preferences and downloading & installing the Epson Printer Software 2.15 (downloaded from the Apple support site). But nothing seems to help.

When I go to the Epson driver download page, it says that I can only get drivers via Software Update.

Does anybody have suggestions?

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Wow!  Such a simple fix to add a computer name!  I had "Call Apple" on my To Do list for next week but now no need!  Nice to know some things can be fixed easily.

    Thanks!

Thank you, Yuengdog. I wish I'd found this before I called Apple to find out this exact same thing, though I'm happy they now know there's at least one more person having this problem (I also told them many people seem to be having the same, or similar problem). Looks like your post is doing most of Apple & Epson's work. You ROCK!

Please help me, I have read all the comments about how well everybody go with the computer renaming to be able to print. I have tried all. I search for answers all over internet, apple, epson and others with no luck. I think I´m close to fixing this problem when talking to you. Please help me, renaming the computer on Mavericks has not solved the problem I still get the "Filter failed" message. I know it worked for many people but I feel left behind. Please, please help.

Same problem here with Epson NX305, I updated from appstore and had this filter issue.

I tried above solution from Yuengdog1983 and didn't work for me yet. In case the above solution doesn't work, try this that worked for me:

Do what Yuengdog1983 suggested first - same instructions here from Epson:

    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supAdvice.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&note oid=240181&type=highlights

IF that doesnt work right away

    Then:

    1. Unplug the printer from your mac
    2. Turn off the printer
    3. Delete/Remove the printer from System preferences > Printers & Scanners
    4. Turn on the printer again
    5. Plug it back in to your mac
    6. Go back to System preferences > Printers & Scanners and you should see it installed again

Thats it, should print. Worked for me after doing that.

Thanks Yuengdog1983 for original solution also.

    Bonjour,

This issue may be a result of the Computer Name being left empty

Open System Preferences and choose Sharing

Enter a name for your computer

    Restart the Computer

Test if you are able to print
