Typically this happens when the list of compatible printers inside the Mac is outdated. It's strange that it would happen with one that's been working, but not unheard of. Try running Apple Software Updates and restarting the Mac. Typically this will allow the list to update, and the printer to install. Even if no updates are found, the list will still update.
