Hi aarjee, your posts talk about the mdp to hdmi cable. That is also what I recommended on the posts on this page, and on every single one of my posts, from back in 2012, on every apple discussion about the display problem, for example see this link...

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20174277#20174277

Please just help people instead of getting frustrated, its a frustrating experience for many and they may miss the advice in their quick reading of the pages, thats why i pop back here every so often and just repeat myself, patiently.

all of this is well and good - but in reality, this solution has not worked for everybody (ike myself).

I've been battling this issue for almost three years - and tried all the suggested solutions, short of a dawn goat sacrifice.. and some work for a while.. some work longer but eventually (two months at the longest) the "connection" gets broken  - without any apparent change being made at either end - and then it no longer works.

For those who are convinced that they've found the HDMI Grail cable, I'm happy for you but I reserve judgement for a while and I ask you to explain why YOUR solution doesn't work for everyone?

and the underlying question, so eloquently asked in the preceding post - WHY DOESN'T IT JUST WORK??

with any cable designed to bridge the two ports, or any adaptor designed for that very purpose... when they ALL work on other machines but Apple...??

    Why is that?

Hi Apple have never addressed this unfortunately. You are right, it seems that what works for some doesnt work for others. I cant help you but I can only suggest what worked for me. A workaround that might work is something like airdisplay. I sometimes connect my tablet to the TV and use airdisplay to mirror my macs screen. It works very well for me.

I have a 2007 Imac with the older mini display port (mini-dvi).  My mini-dvi to hdmi female just recently stopped working after about 6 months.  I originaly used a mini-dvi to dvi adapter purchased from apple and it worked like a charm, with a belkin dvi to hdmi cord.  I lost the belkin dvi to hdmi cord.  My question is should I try buying a new belkin dvi to hdmi cord attached to my (apple) mini-dvi adapter or try a mini-dvi to hdmi male cable.  I see that people have had success with the mdp/thunderbolt to hdmi male cable on the newer Mac MDP/thunderbolt ports. Would I have to same success with the mini-dvi (older mdp port) to hdmi male cable or should i try the apple mini-dvi adapter to a belkin dvi to hdmi cord? any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Yeah I've had the same problem forever. When I first got my mac book Air last December, I also bought the thunderbolt HDMI cable from the Apple store with my macbook air, and when I got home and tried to plug it into the t.v. it didn't work. After spending hours learning how to use it and trying everything I finally gave up after reading the forums here and I waited for a mac softwear update figuring the new OSX softwear was so new it had a few bugs in it. I seemed to be right, because then with the next softwear update it worked. I could connect my macbook air to different t.v.s using the thunderbolt HDMI cable I bought at the Apple store when I got my computer. Then months later this week one day I connected my coputer to my family T.V. in the morning and it worked. I tried again in the afternoon after a Mac OSX softwear update and it didn't work. It's not been working since the last Mac OS update again! I'm not surprised since this has happened before when I first bought my pc. It is very frustrating... I'll just keep the thunderbolt HDMI cable and keep trying ocasionally hoping some day the softwear developers will once again resolve the issue.... I can tell you in the past it was not the computer, or the cable, or the t.v. or the order in which I turned the t.v. on and connected my cable, or turned my macbook air on either, so it probably isn't the issue this time either...

I completley agree with you re: itunes and OSX, and HDMI. I too thought apple would be simpler, but it's a constant pain in the neck. I don't like the new itunes updates, the inflexible OSX softwear, and that the thunderbolt to HDMI periodically spasmatically works when connecting my macbook air to a T.V. Frustration doesn't even begin to define it....

I bought an HDMI cable that is NON Apple-made, and so far, it's working great.

But I completely agree with most of the comments on this group... the quality of Apple products has dropped significantly. I've bene having constant problems with my MacBook Pro & iMac.

I was able to deal with the fact that Apple had become extremely stingy (dicontinuation of the soft cases that used to be given with new ipods, remote controls that used to come with a new MacBook or iMac, the numeric pad on the Apple keyboards - I can't believe we have to buy a brand new keyboard & pay extra just to get a numeric pad... something that's included on ALL other keyboards - and more), but now it feels like Apple is trying to save on some more cash, and build their products in China.

Either they need to get their act together & think about their customers, or another company needs to take their place.

I concur! There is no reason that something so simple should NOT have been fixed by now. This is probably the biggest issue I've read regarding Macs in general.

That being said, I have the same issue. I keep thinking I found a solution, only to be wrong the next day. What usually works for me is to just leave both the Mac and TV alone for about five or tenon items and try again. I've also noticed that running large processes before plugging your adapter in does play a significant role in this. If I plug everything in after playing a game, nothing. If I do it on a fresh start up, it typically works. It's time consuming but, better than nothing.

the other day I posted how angry I was because of this issue and APPLE DELETED MY POST. What a bunch of loosers! Instead of deleting my posts you should fix this problem and tell people what the heck is going on. I think we should go to their freaking stores all over the world and DEMAND they fix this issue or give us our money back. What do you guys think?

After about 10 minutes of off and on it came back. But I knoq that after I disconnect this crapp it will stop working again because thats what it does.

GOD **** YOU APPLE!!! FIX THISSSSSSSS!!!!
