One more thing:  You might consider retrying Pages before you add back any other apps, as that would succeed if you have some other apps corrupting your iPad.

I actually installed Pages first before adding in other apps since I wondered the same thing.  Nope.  I also tried the gmail site on safari before doing anything else too but that also crashed safari.

turning off javascript in safari stopped the safari crash with gmail website...pages still crashes though.  Just thought I'd update you on at least that one issue.  No biggie since I don't really need to access gmail via safari on the ipad but nice to know the "solution" for one of my crash issues.  LOL!

Interesting ... I never would have guessed the Javascript solution.  Thanks for letting us know.

Yeah, I did a google search and that was a recommendation so I tried it and it worked for that one issue.  Decided to take my refund from apple and just use google drive instead.  Not sure why I didn't think of that before all this craziness.  It's free and I really just need something basic.  The pathetic thing is that all I really wanted to do from the beginning was work on a checklist for camping supplies.  We just went camping with our 1 yr old for the first time and while we did great at remembering everything she would need to keep all 3 of us sane and happy, we quickly realized that we forgot some important things for us!  Nearly forgot the sleeping bags too but I remembered that just before we went to sleep the night before leaving for the campground.

    Fascinating.

If it were me, I would have used the built-in Notes app for that.  Not only is Notes something I rely on heavily (I keep the notes on iCloud), but Notes also supports dictation, so if your iPad is new enough to support Siri, you can even dictate your notes into your iPad.

I also thought about that too but since I had actually typed out our camping packing check list before we started packing, I thought it would be nice to have an app I could use that original document with and edit from that.  Seems that most of my troubles come from trying to be too complex with a very simple need.  LOL!  Oh well, with google drive, my husband and I can both edit documents if need be...not like that happens very often but you know, one day, it may actually happen.

Just thought I'd update.  Found out that ibooks 3.1.1, the latest one, wasn't working either.  Went to the Genius Bar today and they basically wiped the ipad clean and did a complete wipe out and reinstalled the firmware and system on the ipad and started it fresh and ibooks and pages now both work fine.  Gmail no longer crashes safari with javascript enabled.  So looks like something was corrupt on the ipad.  Now to figure out what was the trouble app or document.

I appreciate the update!  Sounds like an excellent conclusion.

I recommend suspecting the apps more than the documents as the culprit.

    Best of luck!
