Q: mackeeper

Is MacKeeper malicious?

I've read strings that say it can do no harm & others claim it's extremely malicious (even though may not be a BOT or virus).

MacKeeper is not actually malware, despite what many people will tell you.

That certainly does not mean that it is desirable software, though. It's junk software. It used to be sold by an unethical company (Zeobit), using unethical means. (It has since been sold to another company... time will tell what happens from here.) The free trial uses scare tactics to try to convince you that your system has serious problems that it can "solve" for you... if you buy it, of course. It has been known to cause performance problems and even damage systems. Almost all of the functions it provides that are worthwhile can be performed better by free software.

So, in other words, avoid it like the plague.
