We need clear details
I rebuilt iphoto6,
What exactly did you do? And why did you do it?
then my photos disappeared
What exactly does this mean?
I assume iphoto reverted to library on original drive so optioned clicked on iphoto startup and selected my library which is on a separate drive but photos still do not appear but they do exist in the library on the separate drive.
Please explain in detail what you have and where you have libraries - and what format any external drive has - and how it is connected

Iphoto6 popped up with its Rebuild Photo Library window and with the box checked for Rebuild the photos' small thumbnails I selected Rebuild. I chose to do this rather than cancel because iphoto had been freezing up...sometimes I could not get thumbnails to open and I would have to force quit.
When I launched iphoto after rebuilding the small thumbnails, there were no longer any photos visible in iphoto.
I have two libraries one on my original hard drive (with no photos in it) and one on an Al Pro Raid - which is the one I'd been using (and the photo still exist on the Al Pro Raid on the Finder level. Importantly, there is only one photo that is still visible in Iphoto and when I reveal file I see that it is on the Al Pro Raid drive. It is in a Roll 1 folder which is in the folder 2013. However, none of the other photos that are in other folders (starting with Roll 764) contained within folder 2013 appear in iphoto.
I hope that is clearer and I appreciate for your help!

be sure you are using the library on the external drive and Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library - do each option in order from the top until you get results - if none resolve this then download iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - and use its rebuild command
