Q: Pictures are cruelly rendered since last Digital Camera RAW Converter update (Nikon D600)

since the last RAW converter update all my RAW pictures are displayed like wrong colored 4bit-images!

It's wether if I use Preview, Aperture or any other application that makes use of Apple RAW converter.

This is the way it looks like (left). The big image (right) is the original from the Nikon ViewNX2 to show, that tha RAW-file is right itself.

I'm seeing this problem too, files from my D90 that were imported years ago to iPhoto now do not display properly. These would have been transferred via NX around 4 years ago and imported into iPhoto around 2 years ago. Have always been fine before in iPhoto, finder and aperture until today. The files open fine in nx2. So it just appears to be the apple software. Recently (July) imported d7000 raw files are fine

What you are saying is , that old nx2 transformed pictures have a problem with 4.08. new nx2 are ok. I dont have a Nikon; if that is the case go back to 4.07. I would advice to always import directly to A3/iPhoto.

Sorry I was just providing information for the person who asked whether it was just newly transferred files.  I prefer to transfer using NX2 as it renames files with date/time and I can back the files up separately rather than as part of the iphoto/aperture library for use in other organisors/editors/OSs.

OK, but you can do that just as well with A3 , renaming , changing date/time and storing separatly.

Thank you so much! I had the exact same problem with older .NEF images, probably imported through viewNX 2. I followed your steps, installed 4.07 and the images are good again!

Funny thing was though: in addition to having the older (ie imported with NX2) .NEF files rendered 16 color bright pink beyond help of manually restoring, a bunch of newer files were rendered bright green for which a simple white-balance correction sufficed. As I did restore those manually, I do not know if this solution would have cleared that other issue as well.

Apple has resolved this issue with Digital Raw Compatibility Update 4.09 which showed up this morning.

Actually it was released on Sept 12th, and many reported that it resolved these issues.
