Do you have to take the RAM out before removing the display?

I need to replace a component behind the display; I've noticed that on many of the online repair guides for my mode (Mid-2011 27" Imac), the first step is to remove the RAM, even though it lives in that port below the screen and not behnd it. Does one have to remove the RAM before one removes the LCD, even in the course of Non-RAM related repairs?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
