Q: safari not loading reliably

I downloaded a demo version of mackeeper and ran the diagnostic because things seemed to be running a bit slow.  I didn't want to pay the full price for it and found lots of negative reviews, so I followed instructions on getting it off the computer.  Now I have trouble loading pages in safari (6.0.5).  This gets progressively worse as I try to navigate between pages in a website.  It just seems to freeze up.  Yesterday the pages would eventually load, but today I get a "failed to open page" message.  If I navigate away from the site to other random sites, it seems to work fine.  Safari works fine on iPad/iPod touch/iPhone so I don't think it is a network issue.  Any ideas what went wrong and how to pinpoint/fix the problem?  I have reset the browser clearing the cache and cookies.  I also downloaded Appdelete lite to check for orphaned files, but didn't find any.  I tried opening some new DNS servers by following an old thread in the apple community.  The latest info I could get on a problem like I am experiencing is over a year old.

MacKeeper is not necessary on your Mac >  Do not install MacKeeper: Apple Support Communities

Your Mac runs background maintenance for you >  Mac OS X: About background maintenance tasks

Download and install this free utility >  Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com

That will uninstall not only the app but all the associated files.

Then follow the instructions for uninstalling MacKeeper. It will only cause you problems. Avoid third party cleaning utilities.

If Safari is running slow, try troubleshooting extensions and plugins.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that off if there are any installed. Quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn extensions back on then uninstall one a time to test.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
