My imac running OS X 10.8.4, with the group update installed keeps crashing and restarting itself at various intervals and running different software each time. This last time, I tried to double check the 10.8.4 group update was installed, ran it and the install seemed to complete, but then upon restart, I still got the "your computer was restarted due to a problem" message. I also got this message when I restarted in safe mode - and I selected the restart from the apple menu.

Here is the latest Problem Report, below. Please let me know what additional information might be helpful to help figure this out. It's making it impossible to get any work done.

Reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.

The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.

I was having a similar problem with shut downs and restarts.

This is what solved my problem.

Launch Disk Utility and choose to repair the file system.

I had to restart my system and run disk utility from the recovery HD to repair my file system, but once done, the issue seems resolved.

    Hope this helps.

How many RAM sticks do you have in there? 10.8 only needs 2GB of RAM so if you have 4GB or more across 2 sticks then just try running it with one stick at a time.
