Q: are there any voice to text programs out there for free i want to talk to my laptop and have it convert it to text and my quicktime isnt working

What OS are you running?

If you have OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 or later you can use the built in Mac Dictation.

I don't know of any free software that does this aside from trial versions.

No there arent and you have to be running 10.6.8 to upgrade to Mountain Lion (10.8.4). You would have to upgrade to upgrade to Snow Lepard (10.6) first then to Mountain Lion. It looks like Apple still sells Snow Lepard discs here:

I honestly can't answer that because I use the built in dictation.
