Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
In edit mode, you should be able to click and drag (while holding the left button down) a box around the items you wish to select. Once you release the left button, you can select Arrange, Group, and all the selected items should move together.
The example below of event tickets shows that I've selected a few of the text and graphic elements by clicking and dragging a box, as described above, Arrange, Group-ed them, and then dragged the group together off-kilter for this illustration.
You do NOT absolutely HAVE to group them, but it makes it easier to deal with one grouped selection of multiple elements than a bunch of individual elements, as you've discovered.
You can 'ungroup' them by clicking within the group, and selecting Arrange, Ungroup.

An additional thought; should your arrangement of words be such that it's difficult or impossible to gather them all in one swipe, you can shift-click to gather up those you missed and group them and then group the groups.
