Q: Iphone 4 - Not connecting to wifi (incorrect password)

Hi there,

I seem to be having problems connecting my iphone to my home network, it keeps coming up with the error "incorrect password for STEVE_NETGEAR" - The strange thing is that i have two iphone 4's and the other one connects to my home network perfectly, so its just my one that does not - However, it still connects to other networks just fine, so its just my home network that it doesnt connect to... i really dont understand this issue... very strange! I've tried everything:-

1) Mac Filtering
2) Disable passkey
3) Used 128 HEx
4) Reset the iphone back to factory settings
5) Reset Network settings
6) Upgraded to 4.1 OS
7) Changed the SSID
8) etc, etc, etc

None of which resolved the issue, i'm at a loss as to how one out of the two iphones can connect and the other cannot... Why can it connect to all other wifi networks but not my own... Could it maybe be a conflict between the two iphones?

If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help

Regards

SWM

Did you try simply shutting down the phone then turning back on? Sometimes it will detect the network.

    Usual technical support response right?

If it still doesn't work take it back to apple and replace it.

Its a software issue, Obviously not picked up during rigorous software testing that I know that Apple do...

Samsung certainly don't have this issue.

Only fix I found was a restore.

What did work for me on my iPhone was:

    1. Turn off WiFi

    2. Turn on WiFi

    3. Select "Other" - not YOUR network

    4. Manually type in YOUR network name

    5. Select the password type and then enter your password.

Thanks for the tip. It worked for me (typing the http//???.???.???.?). Same problem, telling me incorrect password. Whether it was from upgrade or because switched wifi network while traveling, don't know. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Tried everything in all the previous posts on my new iPhone4, with no success, until I entered the Wireless Network Key on my U-verse router instead of the password, and - success!! Seems like you just have to try any and everything until you find something that works.

I had the same problem and tried most if not all of these troubleshoots.

Good News!! I figured my problem out.

I went to SETTING> WIFI> and selected my network clicked on the and clicked on forget network.

Went to other network. Manually inputed my network and my password and whala!! Back on Line!!

Hope this helps someone on this site!!

when you say hex code, how do you get that? I used http://www.swingnote.com/tools/texttohex.php to find the hex code? is this what you mean? I typed my password there, got the hex code, and you say put a $ in front of the hex? I don't understand...

I used the latest version of semi-restore which can be found on semi-restore.com, I used version 1.0.5, and it worked perfectly fine for me. It fixed the wifi issue, and other issues I had. In case you want to make sure you use the same version as me, here are links to download version 1.0.5.

WHat is semi restore??? How do you install it on an iPhone 5???

I've had this issue on my iPhone 5 since I got my Bluetooth working that wouldn't connect in the past. Now about my Bluetooth works, my Wi-Fi still gives incorrect password no matter what I do. Changing the router names, settings, passwords, I've tried everything, and it says incorrect password instantly. What else can I try?. I can't be the only one with this issue

I've had wifi issues on my iPhone 6 since I upgraded to 8.1.2 where I can connect to my home wifi fine as always but not any free wifi in public places it always tells me incorrect password even though its 100% the right password.

I have reset network settings, switched off location, restored the phone multiple times, manually entered network names and passwords.

I created a new SSID on a second router at home as a test and it says "can not connect" regardless of  the settings i use on the router e.g b/g/n encryption type or open. Also tried a third router and my various laptops and iPhone 5S can connect no problem but not the iPhone6.

All places where have previously accessed wifi is no longer possible always receiving incorrect password and also new places I have not visited before do not allow me to access the networks.

Clearly in my case this is not a router hardware or config issue as my home router works fine as it always has just can't connect to any others.

Today I upgraded to 8.1.3 in the hope that this would resolve the issue but not.

I travel a lot so wifi connectivity is pretty important to me.

    appreciate any assistance.

    Thanks

As sad as it is, you're going to have to restore. It was the only thing that fixed it for me, despite countless hours of work and trying things, restoring was the only solution. I recommend you do this whenever you can, especially if you rely on a jailbreak, as iOS 8.1.3 patches the current one. Good luck, hope this helps.
