Q: Updating from OS X 10.4.11 to 10.5/Leopard or Snow Leopard/10.6

I have a Macbook 1,1 with an Intel Core Duo (1.83 GHz),

2 MB of memory,

SMC Version 1.4f12.

It's currently on Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger), and can supposedly be updated to Leopard or Snow Leopard. I have two Installer disks that came from other computers- an OS X 10.5.7 install DVD for a Macbook Pro (Disc Version 1.0, 2Z691-6435-A), and a Snow Leopard 10.6.8 CPU Drop-In DVD (Version 10.6, 2Z691-6431-A) that came in the hardware bundle.

I have at least 5 free Gigs of free memory, and I ran Disc Utility and did a Repair on my hard drive.

But for no reason I can discern, when I start the computer with either of the DVD's, it gives me an error message; "Cannot Install" or "Requires 10.5", respectively for the 10.5.7 and the 10.6.8 discs.

I also have downloaded Updaters from Softpedia: MacOSX 10.5.6 Combo and a 10.6.8 Updater. Both give me the message: "Couldn't open "MacOSXUpd-------.pkg". This package type requires Mac OS X 10.5."

I don't understand why none of these work. Do I need to get ahold of the first version of Leopard (OSX 10.5) before installing the rest? Can my computer simply not be upgraded, despite what I've read?

HELP. PLEASE. I want to keep this computer, hopefully with all my data intact.

iPod touch, iOS 3.1.3
